More than a touch of Christmas cheer is set to arrive in Auckland this December as Encore Theatre Collective presents the New Zealand Premiere of Elf the Musical at the ASB Waterfront Theatre!

Based on the hit 2003 film starring Will Ferrell, Elf is the hilarious tale of Buddy, the human turned Elf raised by Santa at the North Pole. On learning the truth, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh realities that his father is on the naughty list and his half-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

Since launching in 2019, Encore Theatre Collective has dazzled thousands of audience members across Auckland. Elf promises Christmas magic of the highest order, with spectacular production design, astounding choreography, and a stunning cast of Auckland's finest young performers, led by the incomparable Mark Hadlow as Santa Claus.

Elf is the “Sparklejollytwinklejingley” theatrical event of the year that is perfect for Christmas lovers of all ages!

Joy Store

Encore is proud to be supporting the Christmas Joy Store this Christmas to help provide presents to families in need. We encourage patrons attending Elf The Musical to bring along an unwrapped, brand-new, quality toy and leave it at the collection point in the foyer before the performance. Toys will then be donated to the Joy Store at the end of the week.

In December 2021, the Christmas Joy Store opened its doors for the first time and was an instant success – an initiative by the Kindness Collective Foundation. The Joy Store is a social toy store that provides referred parents and caregivers with the opportunity to shop for their children, choosing gifts they know they’ll love, off the shelves for free. The vision behind the Joy Store creates a judgement free zone where parents and caregivers, who might not otherwise get to enjoy a joyful Christmas, are provided a dignified shopping experience.

We ask you to purchase new, quality toys – not from discount stores like $2 shops. Many children have never had a new toy before and every child deserves the excitement of new at Christmas. Toys for ages 1 to 14 could include sports gear, arts/crafts, board games, dolls & books. In 2021, 24,056 toys were picked off the Joy Store shelves for tamariki to open on Christmas morning.
